Afrovibes: Mamela Nyamza - Black Privilege
In 'Black Privilege', Nyamza focuses on the hypocritical structure of our society in which we judge each other based on race, gender, sexual orientation and class. Black Privilege is a cross between performance art and contemporary dance and can be seen in Frascati.
Afrovibes: Mamela Nyamza - Black Privilege
Black Privilege
Nyamza is rolled in on a tall bronze-colored ladder. Her naked body has gold jewelry on her head, ears, wrists and ankles and scales on her head. She looks down at the spectators and switches back and forth between rituals in which she calls up strong women from the past and a court case in which she calls power figures to account for their past actions. At the end, Nyamza descends from her high post and the spectators see that it is not a pedestal but an auction block. For Nyamza , Black Privilege is a black woman's right to rule, to break down, to find her own way. Previously shown at National Arts Festival South Africa 2018, Theater im Pavillon Hannover 2019
