Museum Jan Boon - Het Walhuis
The Walhuis dates from 1725 and shows a small exhibition of archivepieces of Jan Boon. In the past the Boon family was occupied with whalechasing and fishing.
Museum Jan Boon - the Walhuis
After more than 100 years of vacancy, it was decided in 1983 to restore the former barn behind the building of the Company - the Walhuis (1725) - and to give it a socio-cultural purpose. The documents that were found during the restoration, together with documents that were present in the building of the Company, have now been given a better purpose. In order to keep everything in good condition, the documents are now stored in the regional archive in Alkmaar and the maps are kept in the climate chamber of Museum In 't Houten Huis.
In collaboration with Museum In 't Houten Huis, an exhibition about the life and work of Jan Boon junior has been set up in Museum Jan Boon. The Stichting AlkmaardersopdeKaart has put together a Jan Boon Walking Route.
From May onwards, a local artist and/or craftsman/woman will exhibit in Museum Jan Boon every month. This year we will present, among other things, a Jan Boon Beer, a Jan Boon Burger and a Jan Boon Concert. In collaboration with Dagje De Rijp, a Jan Boon Arrangement has been developed.
