Workshop Batikken in Museum het Schip (8-12 jaar)
Inspiration by Indonesian batik technique
Batik is a very old way of decorating fabrics with patterns and colors by drawing on them with wax. The artists of the Amsterdam School came into contact with batik from Indonesia and were inspired by it. They not only decorated fabric here, but also the wood of clocks, boxes and furniture.
In this workshop you will decorate a piece of fabric with a beautiful batik pattern. To get ideas, let's first look at a few examples in the museum's collection, and study the batik technique used by the Indonesians and the artists of the Amsterdam School. Then we get to work ourselves. At the end of the afternoon you can take home your own batik artwork.
The 'batik for children' workshop is suitable for children aged 8 to 12 and lasts approximately 2 hours.
