Winterevenings at the Amstel

The twists and turns of music history

People are capable of great changes, driven by compulsion, urge or curiosity. Perhaps that is why music history is full of wonderful twists and turns.

The twelfth edition of the Winter Evenings on the Amstel festival, from 19 to 22 & 29 December 2024, will focus on a number of these twists and turns. What do you think of Arnold Schoenberg's break with tonality, Shostakovich's bow to Stalin's popular and cultural policy and the new instrument that Adolphe Sax designed in the first half of the 19th century?

An extra-musical twist is that for the first time the festival will no longer take place in the H'ART Museum, but at various other locations (information is in Dutch) in Amsterdam: Museum Het Schip, the Koningszaal of ARTIS Groote Museum, the Waalse Kerk and the Uilenburgersjoel.
