The connecting power of music

'Cannons and muses' is the theme of this 11th edition of Winteravonden aan de Amstel. This makes the connection with the exhibition about Julius Caesar, which can be seen during the festival in the home base of the festival: H'ART Museum. The theme also ties in with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and what this does to musicians. In this way, a connection is made between the time of Caesar, the dictator who brutally subjected much of Europe to his authority, and the devastating war in Ukraine.

This year there is a program with virtuoso musicians from the three warring countries, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. The connecting power of music speaks for both the musicians and the audience. New works by composers from Ukraine and Russia are given a place on the program alongside well-known masterpieces from the European music library that provide comfort, connection and hope.
