Weekend of Scinece at NEMO Science Museum

On 5 and 6 October 2024, we will celebrate the Weekend of Science all over the Netherlands. NEMO Science Museum will also be accessible free of charge this weekend. NEMO is all about space: test your knowledge in the Space Quiz, take part in space experiments, or find out how astronauts stay fit at Space Yoga.

Activities

Train with Space Yoga:

  • In the International Space Station, astronauts live in weightlessness. That makes it difficult to exercise, but it is important that they stay fit. Join Spaceyoga and try the exercises that astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti does to stay in shape on the ISS.

Experience space with VR

  • Have you ever wondered what the International Space Station looks like from the inside? In this VR experience, you enter the spaceship and discover how astronauts live in space.

Space workshop ESERO

  • Do you have what it takes to become a real astronaut? Follow the ESERO space circuit and try to complete all the space experiments!

Take the Space Quiz

  • How many times does the moon fit into the earth? What does an astronaut eat? And how fast does a spaceship fly? Take the Space Quiz and discover how much you know about space. You will also get the chance to watch the trailer for Beyond, the new film by André Kuipers, in which you discover the earth through the eyes of an astronaut.

Stargazing in the planetarium

  • Have you ever wanted to look at the stars during the day? You can! Step into the mobile planetarium and discover how big, beautiful and unique our universe is.

Children's lecture: new life

  • How does life originate? And how do you research that? Scientist Annemieke Petrignani of the University of Amsterdam will research how life originates in NEMO for the next five years. She will tell you all about it during this children's lecture using experiments.

Only on Saturday

Children's lecture: life on the moon

  • Charlotte Pouwels is an analogue astronaut. She does space missions but on Earth. She tests technologies such as new moon landers and trains to go into space in the future. You will discover how that works exactly in this Children's Lecture.

Only on Sundays

Spaceship Earth

  • What is a satellite and how can you do research with it? In the lecture Spaceship Earth, you will discover with satellite data that everything on Earth is connected. Follow a whale from space, see where carbon dioxide is in the air and discover how clouds are formed.

Chain reaction

  • What do a moving office chair, popping balloons, and falling bricks have in common? Discover this in a spectacular chain reaction full of energy. Be surprised by this interactive demonstration about cause and effect.

Chemistry space experiments

  • You can become a scientist in the NEMO Laboratory for a while. Put on your lab coat and safety goggles, and get to work! With everyday items, you can do special experiments and tests. Do an experiment in the Lab? You can do that if you are 6 years or older.

During the Weekend of Science on October 5 and 6, NEMO is free to visit. You do not need to reserve tickets in advance.
