Six roofs: full program and with a beautiful view
Anyone who likes to look up late summer and feel the wind in their hair is more than welcome to discover the Amsterdam rooftop landscape. A selection from the program of the ROEF Expedition: Brazilian music under the impressive skylight of Capital C, a tasting by award-winning cookbook author Jason Tjon Affo at Zoku and silent disco on the roof of Spaces Amstel.
Or workshops and live music in the GAPP roof garden, a pop-up karaoke bar at The Student Hotel and the golden combination of spoken word and hot tubs at Volkshotel. And don't forget: the most beautiful views of the city.
The special roofs are located on the Knowledge Mile (the Weesper and Wibautstraat in Amsterdam East) a short cycling/walking distance from each other. If you want to know more, go to the website and book your tickets right away.
“With the expedition we want to show the public what is possible on the roof landscape. There is no better place to do this than along the Wibautstraat and the Weesperstraat, where a lot is technically possible. A number of roofs have now been beautifully developed, such as the green roof of ZOKU, the Highlight on the roof of the former diamond factory Capital C or the sauna on the roof of Volkshotel. These gems are an inspiration.
A world of possibilities above our heads!
ROEF, the annual Rooftop Festival, draws attention to unused space on the top layer of the city. Amsterdam has a great lack of space and greenery, while on the roofs there is still 12 square kilometers of fallow. That's 25 Vondelparks! Flat roofs are even the largest wasteland in the Netherlands. That has to change, believes the team behind ROEF.
Roofs can contribute to a more sustainable, climate-proof, biodiverse, inclusive and vibrant city. The roof surface potentially offers space for energy generation, rain collection, growing crops, recreation, sports, living and working.
