With introduction

Colombian director Simón Hernández knows better than anyone else how to portray public figures who are crucial to understanding the history of his country. In his documentaries, especially those about famous (historical) people, he knows how to take the viewer into the complex linear storyline of their biography. In this film, the director, together with Pizarro's daughter María José, tries to find out who this guerrilla fighter was and why he was murdered. This quest is similar to that of his previous documentary 'La venganza de Jairo' (2019), about the Colombian horror and science fiction director Jairo Pinilla.

Synopsis : 'Pizarro' tells about the heavy burden of a family legacy. The film begins when María José, in exile in Barcelona, realizes that wherever she flees to, the past will continue to haunt her. Her father Carlos Pizarro was a commander in the guerrilla movement M-19 and was assassinated on April 26, 1990, shortly after signing a peace treaty with the Colombian government. Pizarro symbolizes war and peace in Colombia. Twenty years after her father's murder, María José returns to her native country because she wants to understand the causes that led to his death. She also wants to discover a chapter of history that has been forgotten in the country that was silenced by violence and fear.
