Mario Brunello, Alina Ibragimova, Pavel Kolesnikov en Samson Tsoy - Monument voor vitaliteit
The Ragged Music Festival opens with the pitch-black Sixth Piano Sonata by the inscrutable hermit Galina Ustvolskaya. In this hard hammering outburst of anger, the glimmer of hope that briefly breaks through against the end is also mercilessly knocked away. Shostakovichs late Violin Sonata is also rather grim, but the boned musical abstraction – which makes his late work so special – transcends the gloomy emotional charge. Amid this very Russian confessional music, Beethovens final cello sonata is a powerful monument to the vitality of all that is.

Ragged Music Festival
The musicians performing at the Ragged Music Festival are all connected to London's rich international music scene. Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy came from very different parts of Russia. They studied together at the renowned Royal College of Music, where violinist Alina Ibragimova now teaches. Italian cellist Mario Brunello teaches at the equally prestigious Royal Academy of Music.
