The countertenor Arturo den Hartog won the audience award of the Princess Christina Competition in 2021 and was featured during the Opera Forward Festival of 2020, 2021 and 2022. He is also increasingly developing as a maker, where he is a champion of the work of black composers . For this concert he collaborates with the pianist Daan Boertien. The Heri Heri meal consists of boiled sweet potato, cassava, yellow and green banana, salted fish (fried cod), an egg and garnish (no vegetarian variant available).

Free Heri Heri meal and subsequent song recital

On July 1, the Netherlands commemorates and celebrates the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Antilles (Keti Koti and Dia di Abolishon). On the afternoon before, we pause and look ahead to our shared past, present and future by eating and listening together. The young Surinamese-Dutch countertenor Arturo den Hartog presents a recital with songs by Copland from his collection Old American Songs, a beautiful song cycle by Finzi on texts by Shakespeare and Surinamese traditionals. This will be preceded by a lunch with Heri Heri, a one-pan dish prepared with ingredients that the enslaved were given to eat.
