El mar la mar - IDFA

Human drama in the Sonoran Desert

Only the poorest migrants choose this route to America. Those who are lucky can cross the desert in 3 to 5 days. Many, however, lose their way and die of hunger or thirst, or are arrested by border guards. This human drama is addressed in El mar la mar, in the form of stories of survivors, trackers and desert dwellers, which can be heard on the soundtrack.

Visually, the film is primarily about the awe-inspiring landscape and its ecology. This meditative, sometimes abstract film, shot on 16 mm, takes up a politically and socially hot potato in a poetic exploration of the desert.
