Legacy

This year, the festival isn't looking back, but forward. The 14th edition is about legacy. By legacy, we mean everything we leave behind, big and small. Legacy is about major events in history and the climate that will continue to have an impact for a long time. But it's also about family traditions, memories, and customs we share. What traces do we leave behind? What stories do we pass on? And how do we want people to remember us?

General information

For over 12 years, the Amsterdam Light Festival has been an annual tradition, illuminating the city during the darkest months of the year. Each edition is unique and special, with a different theme each time. Keep an eye on the website for next year's theme.

Practical information

From November 27th to January 4th, the lights will turn on every day at 5:30 PM. From Wednesday to Saturday, they will stay on until 11:00 PM, and from Sunday to Tuesday until 10:00 PM. During the Christmas holidays, the lights will stay on until 11:00 PM.

From January 5th to January 18th, the lights are on at 5:00 PM . From Wednesday to Saturday, they remain on until 11:00 PM, and from Sunday to Tuesday, they remain on until 10:00 PM.

Please note: During the Christmas holidays (December 20th to January 4th), the lights will be on until 11:00 PM every day . On New Year's Eve (December 31st), the lights will go out at 9:00 PM .

As in previous years, the festival is easily accessible by bike or public transport. You'll find several information points and food and drink establishments along the route. For more information, read all the information here.

Accessibility

The route is accessible for people with disabilities. However, please be aware that the route passes through Amsterdam's historic city center, over several bridges, and on uneven pavement. Not all cruise lines are wheelchair accessible; always check with the cruise line before booking. Limited edition printed route maps are available at the information points if you prefer to remain offline during your visit.

Tickets

You can experience the light artworks both by boat and on foot. Tickets for the boat and walking experiences can be booked through the festival website . With an audio tour on the boat, the festival app, and various communication tools, the festival guides visitors through the theme of the new edition.
