Vr̶o̶u̶w̶e̶n̶ Voetbal (Wo̶m̶e̶n̶s̶ Football)

A portrait series for everyone who lives for the game

The title invites reflection on the use of gendered terms such as 'feminine' and 'women', and highlights the paradoxical relationship between the accessibility of football as a sport and the concrete obstacles that women and queer players still face.

The series was photographed in various locations in Amsterdam and shows how people are connected to football culture in their own way. From the players of Café Saarein, who still remember what it was like when women's football was banned in many countries, to the young generation who grow up on the sidelines with new heroes.

Football knows many languages and nationalities, but on the pitch identity, cohesion, culture and community come together. Differences are put aside for a common goal.

With this series, The Queer Agenda calls on people of all ages, orientations and backgrounds to be inspired and to pick up a ball, again or for the first time.
