Immersive art route

Felix Meritis invites you to wander through the spaces of the building and dive into virtual worlds on Saturday 9 November. The immersive art route 'the known/the strange' has been put together by composer, filmmaker and audiovisual artist Alex Raúl. The launch of this programme line is in line with Felix Meritis' objective to put digital culture on the agenda as one of the central themes and to develop programme formats that respond to new technologies, such as virtual reality and digital storytelling.

Along a meditative route of immersive art, 'the known/the strange' invites you to turn inward. Wander through Felix's building and discover virtual reality, short films and soundscapes that explore concepts such as 'memory', 'desire' and 'disorientation'. Experience choral harmonies, pointillist memories, steaming saunas and double realities, and let yourself be guided through this journey of sensory experiences.

About Alex Raúl

Alex Raúl is a composer, filmmaker and audiovisual artist from Amsterdam. His music combines experimental R&B, electronics and choral compositions. Critical history and radical imagination inspire his film and audiovisual work.

In 2019 he debuted with the album 'The Fantastic Fix', a mix of experimental R&B and electronic blues. Since then he has been composing for film, TV and theatre. In 2023 he directed and composed the VR experience CAVES, which was selected for the Golden Calf Competition at the Netherlands Film Festival '23, and won the jury prize at the digital art festival CutOut Fest in Querétaro, Mexico. His short dance film 'As the Call, So the Echo', with choreographer and dancer Nicole Ishimaru of the Nederlands Danstheater, premiered at Cinedans FEST '24, in EYE Amsterdam. Alex Raúl is currently working on a new album and a short film, and curates the immersive art exhibition 'The Known/The Strange' in Felix Meritis, Amsterdam.
