The audience portrayed - Martin Monnickendam (1874-1943)
Who were the people who sat in the theatre 100 years ago? Martin Monnickendam, also known as the 'theatre painter', uses his paintings to provide a glimpse into the boxes and balconies of Amsterdam theatres from the 1920s. In honour of the 100th anniversary of the theatre collection managed by the Allard Pierson, these theatre pieces will shine in the exhibition from 15 November to 2 March.
