Skateboard City
Skateboard City is a large-scale exhibition about skateboard culture in relation to the city: original, creative and do-it-yourself. Skateboarders have a unique view of the city. While some city dwellers see walls and fences as obstacles, skateboarders see them as challenges. The city is one big playground for a skateboarder. This idea is central to the Skateboard City exhibition at the Van Eesteren Museum.

Sidewalk surfing to pass the time
Skateboarding originated in the 1960s in Santa Monica, California (United States of America). There were surfers in lousy weather, think of small waves or (too) much wind, looking for a way to pass the time. Sidewalk surfing, also known as skateboarding, was born.
The Skateboard City exhibition shows original archive material of skateboarders from Amsterdam, films, photos, music, models, maps and a skateboard ramp.
The relationship between skateboarding and architecture is highlighted in various design projects with work by Maurer United, SCALA+MANA and Bureau B+B, among others.
