Rembrandt & the world

See what Rembrandt saw! Museum Rembrandthuis, situated in the heart of Amsterdam, is the place where Rembrandt lived and worked for nineteen years. The house where he started out full of ambition, only to have to move away due to financial difficulties. Here he experienced moments of joy and sorrow, received buyers and pupils, went into town and drew his surroundings and neighbours. Here he looked out over a city that was rapidly changing. Almost 400 years later, The Rembrandt House Museum is the only museum in the entire world completely dedicated to Rembrandt. Still located in the beating heart of the city, the museum is the place where you can get to know the greatest Dutch artist ever.

Rembrandt & The World until October 13th 2024

Rembrandt and his work are generally considered to be typically Dutch. This image is strengthened by the fact that Rembrandt never once left the Netherlands to travel abroad. Still, we can see quite a bit of the world in his etchings – from lions, exotic shells and turbans to mountainous landscapes and Italian architecture. How did he gather the knowledge about foreign landscapes, architecture, people, clothing and objects?

Rembrandt & The World will feature 50 Rembrandt etchings from the Rembrandt House Museum’s renowned collection.
