Most important initiatives by Piet van Eeghen
He laid out the Vondelpark, took the initiative for social housing and built the then-ultramodern Prinsengracht Hospital. The Mennonite Amsterdam businessman Christiaan Pieter (Piet) van Eeghen (1816-1889) wanted to improve the world, and thanks to his wealth, a deep-rooted faith and many influential friends, he came a long way. He played a crucial role in the modernization of Amsterdam in the 19th century.
From 12 January 2023, a small presentation can be seen in the Schatkamer of the Stadsarchief, with documents from the collection of the City Archives that create a picture of Van Eeghen's most important initiatives and the world in which he lived.
