Open ateliers Nieuwmarkt 2023
One hundred artists from the Nieuwmarktbuurt will open the doors of their studios on the weekend of 10 and 11 June. A great opportunity not only to meet the artists and admire their works, but also to get to know the colorful Nieuwmarkt neighborhood better. The beautiful Uilenburgerjoel forms the heart of the weekend with the retrospective exhibition. There are many special group locations and a children's exhibition.
Open ateliers Nieuwmarkt 2023
A special edition of the Open Ateliers
The origins of the Open Ateliers lie in the Nieuwmarkt riots during the planned construction of the metro in 1975: artists opened their studios as a sign of support. In 2023, the artists will exhibit not only in their own studios, but also at special group locations such as Amsterdam House of Arts & Crafts, Buurtcentrum de Boomsspijker, Waag Futurelab, De Moddermolen, the Theater Academy and the Outsider Art Gallery.
Children's exhibition
The youngest artists in the area, ten and eleven-year-old children from primary schools De Witte Olifant and Sint Antoniusschool, exhibit their works of art in thirty showcases in Sint Antoniesbreestraat. In a few creative lessons, the children, led by Open Ateliers artists, were inspired by the portraits of their historical neighbor Rembrandt van Rijn.
