HOME Art Project
HOME Art Project is an ongoing art project for everybody and all residents of Amstelveen and their 139 different nationalities. Stephanie Rhode photographs people from Amstelveen with a white house made of wool. These photos are on display in this pre-exhibition. In doing so, she asks, “What does HOME mean to you? Is it your friends and family, personal belongings, or perhaps a place in nature or a particular environment that makes you feel at home?

HOME Art Project
There are currently 1.8 million residents of non-Dutch origin living in the Netherlands. Together they represent 200 nationalities, of which 139 live in Amstelveen alone.
For this project, visual artist Stephanie Rhode uses the universal theme of HOME to make the connection between different inhabitants, nationalities and backgrounds. She photographs people holding a house of white wool and asks participants where they feel at home and why. This results in the so-called 'soul photos', where the participant is depicted from the back, revealing the participants' thoughts and feelings about HOME.
In addition to a digital catalogue in which all photos and statements by participants are bundled anonymously, the art project will conclude with a retrospective open-air exhibition (Autumn 2023) in Amstelveen. The exhibition will eventually travel to show the connection between Amstelveen and the Netherlands and the rest of the world.
From 10 March to 7 May 2023, a pre-exhibition will occur at the Cobra Museum of Modern Art in Amstelveen. Subsequently, a follow-up exhibition will take place in the Schouwburg Amstelveen from 9 May to August 2023. On March 25, at 15:00 hrs you can attend a free lecture by Rhodes on her work.
This Art Project participates in the European Capitals of Diversity and Inclusion awards.
