Relationships and expectations
The matt and glossy glazes radiate towards you, and the objects make a playful impression, but there is another serious story behind that.
Odette Muijsers works a lot with food; tasty ice creams that you want to bite into, shiny lemons, bottles of lemonade and orange pumpkins. Eating behaviour and everything around it is a common thread in her work. Food is something to hold on to. It creates a sense of security, a longing for the past, and a symbol of struggle. But we don't always have a simple relationship with food.
Awareness and sustainability
For Foekje Fleur, there is a profound story behind the delicate, matt porcelain vases; that of environmental pollution and waste. The bottle vases on display come from her sustainable Bottle Vase Project, with which she creates awareness about the growing problem of, among other things, the Plastic Soup.
The vases are inspired by a plastic waste collection Fleur found along the Maas River in her hometown of Rotterdam. During her search, she found garbage dating back to the 1960s! She used the plastic bottles she found to make the moulds for her vases.
