About the Artist

Madhu Venugopalan, born in Kochi Kerala, trained at Thiruvananthapura College of Fine Arts and recipient of the Kerala Lalithkala Academy award and Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant. Extensively shown in biennales, group exhibitions and solo shows across South Asia.

His depiction of human/female figures - both grounded and in motion - emerges from the socio-political climate of the state the artist comes from - the village where he resides and other places that fascinate him.

The tones of soft pink and purple skies, the green of the earth and the women's leotards, the blue clothes of the 'calm and self-assured' women with crossed arms, pale faces and downcast gazes are perhaps misleading enough to make the viewer wonder whether they are rising from the plant pots, knocking them over, being propelled by them or being restricted to planned growth.
