Exhibition: "Defining Moments" 40 years of dance in Our House
We’re excited to announce the latest exhibition “Defining Moments” now on display at Our House. The Defining Moments exhibit is a wall-to-wall installation located that features many iconic moments and tracks that have led dance music to become the global phenomenon it is today.
The Defining Moments exhibit covers over four decades of memories starting from 1977 to 2020 and is divided into three eras. Up first is "The Era of Revolution" which shows us the beginnings of the movement starting from Kraftwerk’s debut, to the Disco Demolition and house music in Chicago then leads into Detroit techno and the birth of acid house.
Next in the Defining Moments exhibit, you’ll find "The Era of Rebellion" which brings us through the late 80s and late 90s when Europe began to take notice of electronic music by adding their own interpretation. This era brought genres like hardcore and the German and Belgian waves, plus gave us the launch of many raves, influential superclubs, and events like Awakenings and Love Parade. In the Era of Rebellion, you’ll see the shaping of electronic music becoming a worldwide commodity.
Lastly, the Defining Moments exhibit features "The Era of Hedonism" when the digital technology of the 2000s merged with electronic music creating a powerhouse of culture which celebrated the “more is more” mentality. From the new styles of DJing, the birth of new subgenres that embraced computer programming, the rise of party capitals like Ibiza and Berghain, then the commercial success of EDM, the Era of Hedonism outlines how dance music culture is now an international sensation.
Another great feature of the new Defining Moments exhibition is the Game Changing Tracks section which shares influential sounds that were released during these defining eras.
There are so many more iconic moments to discover but you can only see them in person. So head to our ticket portal to book a time slot and see the new exhibit for yourself.
