Daniel Schinasi: The Verdi Series

The Verdi series - Italian Cultural Institute

Following on from an exhibition in The Hague, the second part of this retrospective takes place at the Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam. A dozen works dedicated to the composer Giuseppe Verdi will be exhibited here, demonstrating Schinasi's ability to capture music's essence, energy and beauty through his brush.

Both exhibitions are accompanied by an extensive catalogue with various forewords, including those by art critics Marcel van Jole, vice-president of the International Association of Art Critics, Enrico Crispolti, art historian and art critic James Bradburne, museologist and director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, Ermanno Tedeschi, curator and art critic, and the director of Pulchri Studio, Ed van der Kooy.

Daniel Schinasi was born in 1933 in Alexandria, Egypt, to a Sephardic family with roots in Spain and Livorno. His art career was marked by numerous exhibitions and meetings with celebrities from the Italian and French art world, including Sonia Delaunay, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio de Chirico and writer Fausta Cialente. His dedication to art has earned him awards and exhibitions around the world, developing a unique style that combines futuristic elements with deep humanity.

Schinasi's Neofuturism, although based on geometric elements and vibrant colours, differs from Italian Futurism in its emphasis on humanistic values rather than technology. His works portray everyday life, dancers, musicians and athletes, with humans as both a physical and spiritual entity. Unlike the Futurists, Schinasi draws inspiration from humanism and Renaissance art, with particular attention to compositional balance and the individual.
