The alternation of painting and modelling has emerged over the last few years in Florence Husen's life. Fertility is a theme of great interest to her, with its typical features such as a huge belly and large breasts. The images arise from memory. She does not use models but is more the feeling she experiences with specific expressions such as movement and stillness.
As a person and as an artist, Kitty Doomernik needs people around her. That is where her work originates and it also forms her theme: human relationships and behaviour. Her need to visualise poems arose from her writing, and over time ‘the collage’ proved to be the most appropriate way for her to do this. She developed the basic idea for her Nick Cave Project about two years ago.
For Bert Hoekstra, drawing is the basis of all his work. Drawing is a daily activity, often without thinking about it. In a sense, almost all the techniques he uses are derived from drawing. The choice of materials plays a major role for him. Although he uses various techniques, he is particularly fond of wood. Woodcuts, wood engravings, and spatial wood are related like brothers and sisters. The wire plastics arise more as an extension of the pencil. Making sculptures in this way has more to do with drawing than sculpture. The lines are already there; now we just have to put them in place in the space.
