Ari Schippers

Schippers (1952) painted the 34 Amsterdam cityscapes in Amsterdam, day and night in the years 1994-2006. He also created several new works especially for this exhibition. In 1977 Schippers won the Prix de Rome for painting and in 2016 the Sacha Tanja Penning. He also works as a sculptor and made Long Walk to Freedom (2012), the monument to Nelson Mandela in The Hague, among other things.

Amsterdam cityscapes

For years, Arie Schippers traveled through Amsterdam in his van and painted hundreds of cityscapes. Most in the suburbs and on the outskirts of the city, a few in the center. 'The center belongs to Breitner,' he says. He paints everything he sees: an invalid cart, containers, logos on buildings, lorries displaying strange parking behaviour, bus shelters: anything is allowed.

Tim Killiam Price

The Tim Killiam Prize is an initiative of the Tim Killiam Foundation, which manages the estate of the eponymous architect, draftsman and photographer (1947-2014). He was, among other things, creator and publisher of the Amsterdam Canal Guide. The prize is intended for makers who make an original or valuable contribution to the image of the city of Amsterdam.
