The uninhibited child

This exhibition not only offers a fascinating insight into children's drawing worldwide but also pays tribute to their open-mindedness and spontaneity. Children are not concerned with perspective and form, so their drawings are direct, original and pure. Artists such as Picasso, Klee, Kandinsky and the Cobra artists saw children's drawings as a source of inspiration. It is fantastic that this art is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Actor, painter and art program maker Jeroen Krabbé, together with Annefie van Itterzon, has selected 40 children's drawings that provide a beautiful picture of how children draw worldwide.

Two of his own children's drawings are added. This selection comes from over 900 drawings collected between 1983 and 2021 by art educator Annefie van Itterzon. Last year, Van Itterzon donated this unique collection to the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands (RCE).

Children can also make their own drawings in Atelier CoBrA on Wednesdays and Sundays. Together, these drawings form a vast collage artwork that continues to grow throughout the exhibition and is on display for all visitors to the museum. It is great to see how children can express their creativity and contribute to this exhibition with their own artwork.

On Thursday and Friday evenings, the museum is open longer, and you can visit until 20:00. Book your ticket in advance of your visit for a €1 discount. Residents of Amstelveen can visit the museum for free on Wednesdays; you can read the information here.
