Ronald Snijders
was born in 1951 in Paramaribo, as the son of the famous composer, flautist and conductor Eddy Snijders. Since the 1970s he has been one of the most famous Surinamese musicians in Suriname, the Netherlands and beyond. He is a musical world citizen, creative centipede and an exceptionally versatile and talented musician. In addition, he is a top performer and composer who is particularly known for his flute playing. We are extremely honored with his arrival in Wester-Amstel.
Snijders is known for his versatility, improvisation and creativity and the contact he makes with the audience. Surinamese rhythms such as kawina and kaseko are combined or alternated with funk, jazz, soul, Brazilian and world. In recent years, Ronald Snijders has performed at VPRO Free Sounds, The Great Wide Open, The Liberation Festival, the Kwaku Summer Festival, Northsea Jazz Festival, the Keti Koti Festival and the Concertgebouw, among others.
Snijders was knighted by both Suriname and the Netherlands. He also received the Bronze Bull (Amsterdam), the Masra Award (Rotterdam) and the Lifetime Achievement Award (Utrecht). On December 7, 2022, Ronald Snijders received the Boy Edgar Prize, awarded by the Fonds de Podiumkunsten for his many years of contribution to jazz in the Netherlands.
