Youn Sun Nah Quartet
For 20 years and 11 albums, singer Youn Sun Nah has been finding new angles for well-known songs from jazz, pop and folk. These can be standards, but also songs by Joni Mitchell or Tom Waits, a classical melody by Scriabin or a song in Korean, her mother tongue.
Youn Sun Nah Quartet
Versatile Korean singer is breaking new ground as a songwriter
Waking World was released last year, the first album for which she wrote all the lyrics and music herself. In doing so, she often deviates from traditional song forms and opts for a poetic, visual style. On our stage, Youn Sun Nah plays with the famous double bass player Brad Jones, with whom she previously made the album She Moves On.
More great jazz musicians from New York played on this, such as Marc Ribot and Jamie Saft. After a period of lockdown in Korea, Youn Sun Nah now lives in France again, where she feels at home. She collaborated with many well-known names in French jazz, including Airelle Besson, Vincent Peirani and Didier Lockwood.
