'Violinist Antje Weithaas combines elegant expressiveness with the precision of a laser beam', according to de Volkskrant . Weithaas takes her colleagues - the top musicians Julian Steckel and Kiveli Dörken - to The Concertgebouw for a varied program with sparkling work by four composers.
Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio
Tchaikovsky's patron, Nadeznja von Meck, asked him in 1880 to write a piece for an occasional trio that would perform in her house – the pianist of this trio was a traveling Frenchman, Claude Debussy. Tchaikovsky refused, as a composer of symphonic music he felt limited in chamber music works. Later he changed his mind and created his Piano Trio , a work somewhat apart from the European tradition, but which in its beautiful melodies and its effective emotionality is one hundred percent Tchaikovsky.
