Trio Zimbalist
The members of Trio Zimbalist all studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. They take their name from the renowned violin virtuoso Efrem Zimbalist, then director of the institute. Whether performing Romantic works or contemporary composers, reviews of the trio praise the players' precision and feverish intensity. And: pure delight. The musicians from the Czech Republic, Greece, and the United States will make their debut in the Recital Hall.
Brahms' Piano Trio No. 2
Brahms didn't compose for piano trio for over a quarter of a century, until he broke that silence with his opus 87, in C major—and how! Clara Schumann was thrilled with the work, even when, in his enthusiasm, Brahms burst into her house unannounced around Christmas 1882 to play it. He stayed until after New Year's. Brahms wrote to his publisher: "You have never received such a beautiful trio from me!"
