The Handsome Family
The Handsome Family is a songwriter duo from America that has been making music together for more than 25 years, and has also been a regular at Paradiso since the beginning. We know them from the title song of the first season of True Detective, Far From Any Road, which has now been streamed more than tens of millions of times.
The Handsome Family
Brett and Rennie Sparks
formed the duo in the same year that they tied the knot. The roles were divided: Brett makes the music and Rennie writes the lyrics. And that works very well: intense, clearly descriptive lyrics are complemented by uplifting musical performances and the occasional psychedelic excess. Artists such as Andrew Bird and Amanda Palmer have already covered songs by the band, and Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr can also count them among their fans. Since the debut 'Odessa' (1995) the band has released no less than eleven albums of which the latest achievement is 'Unseen'. They are now re-releasing both their debut and 'Milk And Scissors', so we can expect quite a few songs from those albums in Paradiso. Romantic yearning, mystery and hints at the beauty of nature: The Handsome Family brings together as many elements as possible in small country folk songs.
