Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra; CvA Chamber Choir and solist: Hohe Messe

Various departments of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam are collaborating: Choral Conducting – Early Music – Classical Singing – Early Music Singing. The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra consists of students specializing in authentic performance practice at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Along with vocal students and soloists from the Early Music department and others, they perform the Mass in B minor, nicknamed the "Hohe Messe," the magnum opus written by Johann Sebastian Bach towards the end of his life. You can attend this concert, conducted by Maria van Nieukerken, at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.

The magnum opus of Bach's oeuvre

The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra is an ensemble of students specializing in authentic performance practice at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Together with the Sweelinck Chamber Choir and soloists from the Early Music Vocal Department, the orchestra will perform the Mass in B minor , nicknamed "Hohe Messe," Johann Sebastian Bach's magnum opus, written at the end of his life.

A multitude of styles is explored in this work: intimate solo arias and duets, masterful choral passages, beautiful instrumental solos, and complex fugues alternate. Bach drew richly from his earlier masterpieces and forged them into a compilation of highlights. This final vocal work of his career thus forms a sublime finale.
