Storytelling concert: De Jonge Werther

A fusion of literature and theatre

The performance provides a unique concert experience in which music, literature and theatre merge. The narrator Michel Krielaars gives an interpretation of the story in the role of Wilhelm (Werther's best pen pal) in the present time.

The violinist Arthur Rusanovsky in the role of Werther reacts to the narrator's story and plays his favorite works for solo violin by the composers, J.S. Bach, H. Wieniawski, F. Kreisler, Ysaÿe and Paganini. Each piece of music has its own meaning, be it a feeling, memory or emotion that is connected to the story.

JW Goethe's epistolary novel Die Leiden des jungen Werthers serves as a source of inspiration. The suffering of young Werther is about his unfulfilled love affair, escape into nature, torments and suffering. It is about constantly trying, failing, hoping, falling and getting up again.
