Stillness in Concert
Kay Sleking (Netherlands-Kenya)
combines his superb technique with profound musicality and soul. At this point in his career, he pushes the boundaries of his musical baggage and uses it for solo playing, incorporating influences from classical, minimal, jazz and tango into his compositions. Kay has performed on many stages, from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Spain, Finland, America, Canada to Argentina. For many years he was also a principal subject teacher and orchestra leader at Codarts (Rotterdam Conservatory) and he gives workshops at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In addition to guitar, he plays double bass and bandoneon.
As a musician and visual artist, he travels between different modes of expression. During this concert you can experience the combination of his music and visual work, listening between the paintings in Studio Kay Sleking Art, situated in a monumental school building in the Watergraafsmeer, Amsterdam.
