Sketch351 - Surfaces

A unique concert experience that aims to push the boundaries of conventional classical music. In 'Surfaces', Sketch351 plays in Splendor, with alternative stagings, and they perform music that approaches instruments traditionally as well as percussive and performative music. This results in a wide range of sounds and images.

Pushing the boundaries of conventional classical music

Sketch351 is an ensemble based in The Hague that was founded in 2020. The quintet focuses on working with the new generation of composers and developing interdisciplinary collaborations. In these projects, they research and experiment with the possibilities of the various instruments.

For the past two years, they have commissioned new compositions for the unconventional line-up; cello, flute, percussion, piano and trombone. In this concert, the ensemble would like to share a selection of these works with the public.

They will combine some of the commissioned pieces with three remarkable pieces from Glass and Cage's performative repertoire, which they have arranged themselves.

Daniel Martins - trombone

Diederik Smulders - cello

Inês Lopes - piano

Ricardo Oliveira - percussion

Teresa Costa - flute
