Sibelius' Symphony No. 5 & Josefowicz plays Stravinsky

American-Canadian violinist Leila Josefowicz makes her violin sing and growl in Stravinsky's neoclassical Violin Concerto. It is one of his most popular and accessible pieces, full of rhythmic power and contrasting interaction between orchestra and soloist. Josefowicz has been a regular guest at The Concertgebouw for 20 years.

Sibelius' Symphony No. 5

The Finnish Lahti Symphony Orchestra has a strong bond with the music of their compatriot, Jean Sibelius. His epic 'Fifth Symphony' is in good hands with them. "It's as if God the Father throws pieces of a mosaic down from the edge of heaven and asks me to figure out the pattern," Sibelius wrote in his diary while composing. In the finale, the vast Finnish landscape, including trumpeting wild geese, comes beautifully to life.
