Shadowlands

Shadowlands weaves a form of contemporary chamber music from various sources of inspiration, such as early music, folk and church hymns. The interplay is tight and rich in texture, although the formation consists of only three people. These excellent players are used to crossing different genres with each other. The playing of Kit Downes blends smoothly with that of the English saxophonist and clarinetist Robin Fincker. The Irish singer Lauren Kinsella alternates texts and wordless passages. In this way, extended, singing melodies are surrounded by a cloud of brilliant, shifting sounds.
