Franz Schubert was not yet twenty years old when he composed his Fifth Symphony . Yet it is a true Schubert: with the bittersweet and the mixture of melancholy, humor and cheerfulness, he clearly set his signature. In terms of quality, the Fifth is certainly not inferior to the larger-scale Fourth Symphony. On the contrary, it is a wonderful work: sunny and full of life. The cheerful and uninhibited Allegro, lovely Andante con moto, powerful Menuetto and the dazzling Finale make it one of Schubert's most popular symphonies.
