Sanem Kalfa & Miraculous Layers
The many sides of the human voice inspire vocalist/cellist Sanem Kalfa and her dream band with Tineke Postma, Marta Warelis & Sun-Mi Hong. In her performances, Sanem Kalfa creates an intimate, fragile atmosphere with voice, cello and electronics. Sanem Kalfa performs in the Bimhuis.
New work and a new group
Following the Reflex series, for which she composed new work, she put together a new group. Miraculous Layers consists of well-known jazz musicians, all women and all born in different countries. Using Sanem's versatile voice, they express a whole spectrum of feelings of desire, fear and pleasure. Sanem Kalfa is known for her ability to express herself in all kinds of music with her voice. For her, singing is a means to give free rein to her emotions and thus reach the core of her soul. In 2010 she won the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition, with Quincy Jones as jury chairman. In Miraculous Layers she appears alongside internationally renowned saxophonist Tineke Postma, pianist Marta Warelis and drummer Sun-Mi Hong.
