Richard Bona & Metropole Orkest
Bassist Richard Bona (Cameroon, 1967) is praised for his virtuoso playing. Since his solo debut Scenes from my Life in 1999, his voice has also attracted attention. In the hypnotic sounds of his native language Duala, Bona masterfully sings jazz, latin, pop, afrobeat and funk. With the Metropole Orchestra, Richard Bona performs orchestral versions of his best work and newly composed music. They have previously worked together successfully, including at the Quincy Jones Prom 2016 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. For this concert he will be on stage at BIMHUIS Amsterdam.
Richard Bona & Metropole Orkest
Virtuoso Cameroonian bassist sings in his mother tongue
Richard Bona started making music at a young age on the balafon (a kind of marimba) and numerous self-made instruments. Bass player Jaco Pastorius's music inspired him to focus on bass guitar.
After music studies in Germany and France, he moved to New York in 1995, where he more than earned his spurs. He played with Joe Zawinul, Branford Marsalis, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny, among others.
