Ralph van Raat speelt de Carmina Burana
Ralph van Raat takes us this Thursday into the world of transcriptions. A world in which anything is possible, even Carl Orff's monumental Carmina Burana on piano! The concert is part of De Bösendorfer Series and can be attended in the Waalse Kerk.

A version that is almost never heard in a concert hall
Before the break, a number of transcriptions of Bach's organ works, edited by Ferruccio Busoni. In his transcriptions, this celebrated Italian composer and pianist sought a balance between preserving the original character of the work on the one hand and highlighting the unique qualities of the piano on the other. Perhaps without this innovation the transcription of Orff's Carmina Burana would never have existed. This very virtuoso arrangement provides a whole new perspective on the piece, in which all lines, harmonies and Orff's percussive writing style emerge very clearly. Special, because this version is almost never heard in the concert hall and is a great challenge for the pianist. If you want to be here, buy your tickets via the ticket link .
About Ralph van Raat
Pianist and musicologist Ralph van Raat has been fascinated by contemporary classical music since his teenage years. He therefore devotes most of his time to today's music - although his repertoire is broad. Well-known composers, including Tan Dun, David Lang and Gavin Bryars, dedicated music to him. The pianist also worked intensively with Arvo Pärt, György Kurtág, John Adams and Louis Andriessen, among others. Van Raat released a large number of internationally successful CDs on various labels, many of which were domestic and foreign bestsellers. Since 2006 he has a recording contract with Naxos International.
In addition to the many recitals and chamber music he plays, he has been invited as a soloist by international companies and symphony orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In addition to his concert practice, he teaches contemporary piano music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the postgraduate course of the Accademia di Musica di Pinerolo (Turin, Italy).
Ralph van Raat studied piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Ton Hartsuiker and Willem Brons, and Musicology at the University of Amsterdam, and completed both programs Cum Laude. Later he took piano lessons with greats such as Claude Helffer and Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
