7 p.m.: “Rachmaninov's Journey”
This concert is a collage of different images from Rachmaninov's life. He himself provides an explanation in quotes. A fascinating insight into his life as a person and as a musician. It gives the deep, contrasting emotions in his music an unprecedented charge.
The program includes: Opus 2 – Opus 39, his most famous preludes, Trio Elegiaque no.1, Vocalise, but also works by his hero and contemporaries.
9 p.m.: “A Musical Conversation”
The second concert is entirely dedicated to the deep friendship between Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky. The beautiful Trio elegiaque No.2. is not only dedicated to Tchaikovsky's sudden death, but actually above all a deeply emotional conversation. Without words, and therefore even more expressive.
