DAY & NIGHT, a Tapestry of Life

With the project DAY & NIGHT, a Tapestry of Life , Pieter de Graaf explores the extremes of his emotions. With Day, Pieter focuses on quiet piano compositions, while Night contains electronic and exciting pieces. Pieter takes his audience through moments from quiet introspection to fiery intensity. Especially for this concert, the evening is divided into a 'Day' and a 'Night', so that you can experience Pieter's entire world in one evening. There is a lot of improvisation and Pieter weaves together different compositions into one musical journey.

As a trained jazz pianist at the conservatory, Pieter transcends boundaries between genres: from classical to jazz, from pop to hip hop and world music. He uses the piano in an unconventional way; rubber mallets for deep kick drum sounds, chopsticks for percussive elements, tape on the strings and cloths between the strings to edit the sound. In addition, he uses everything to contribute to the sonic enrichment of his music: from wine bottles, windshield wipers, humming tops and his voice to analogue and digital synthesizers. In 2020, Pieter won an Edison in the 'neo-classical' category and he now has tens of millions of streams on Spotify and Apple Music.
