In Piano Nights, the piano takes centre stage, featuring some of the most beautiful piano music of all time. Two pianists, each with a distinct repertoire, will be performing. Daria van den Bercken, one of the Netherlands' top concert pianists, is known for her versatility. In this concert at Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, she will perform famous works by Chopin, one of her favourite composers. Michiel Borstlap, always searching for the balance between what he calls 'head, heart, and gut,' returns to the roots of music, focusing on chords, melody, and rhythm.

Piano Nights

Expect to hear the romantic sounds of Chopin and the captivating works of Einaudi. Previous editions of Piano Nights have featured incredible pianists such as Iris Hond, Thomas Beijer, Jan-Willem Rozenboom, and Hannes Minnaar. Tonight, the stage belongs to Daria van den Bercken and Michiel Borstlap.

Daria van den Bercken

Daria van den Bercken is known for her versatility. She is one of the Netherlands' top concert pianists and a podcast creator, artistic director, and founder of the Piano Biënnale. You may also recognize her from the successful RTL-4 show De Piano. Daria loves bringing her piano playing directly to the audience. She once played while driving along the Amsterdam canals and even performed while suspended from a crane above her audience. She gained international acclaim with her projects Handel at the Piano and Keys to Mozart.

Michiel Borstlap

For Michiel Borstlap, playing from the heart is paramount: "There is no room for compromises. You rely on your feelings to create a mood for both yourself and the audience." The silence between the notes is key: "Less is more." Michiel's sound is always influenced by Chopin, Satie, and Philip Glass. In addition to his solo work, Michiel has collaborated with legendary artists across various genres in recent years, including Ludovico Einaudi, Janine Jansen, and Herbie Hancock, to name just a few.
