Martha Argerich

Martha Argerich is undoubtedly one of the greatest living pianists. The temperament and poetry this Argentinian displays through 88 keys are unparalleled. Or, as the world-renowned conductor Antonio Pappano once put it: "Her conducting feels like being in the presence of a fireball." Whenever Argerich performs, no matter with whomever musical friends she is, there's always something going on. She's playing a program for two pianos with Sophie Pacini. The duo has previously enjoyed considerable success.

Sophie Pacini

In 2010, the young German-Italian pianist Sophie Pacini took the plunge and secured an audition with Martha Argerich. Since then, the Grande Dame has played a significant role in her professional life. Gramophone concluded that she is clearly a protégé of Argerich: "They both give the impression of rhapsodizing and improvising on the spot. And they're not afraid to completely turn their interpretations upside down." Pacini leads the program section after the intermission with a solo performance of Wagner's magnificent Overture to Tannhäuser , arranged by Liszt.
