Liszt and Rachmaninoff
Pianist Boris Giltburg has devoted his heart to the music of Liszt and Rachmaninoff. He performed both composers extensively and recorded their work on CD. The authoritative magazine Gramophone mentions Giltburg's Rachmaninoff renditions of the marriage of heart and mind, impeccable technique and a deep love for one of the greatest composer-pianists of the twentieth century. Giltburg's 'Personal Note' brings together the piano virtuosos Liszt and Rachmaninoff.
Personal note
In Personal Noot, top soloists perform the most beautiful chamber music, interspersed with informal stories. With many sonatas, traditionally the most intense musical dialogue. Both works tonight are associated by musicologists with Goethe's Faust tragedy. Rachmaninoff himself mentioned this source of inspiration, Liszt did not comment on it, but his Faust Symphony – also from his Weimar period – proves that he was obsessed with the theme. These are two grandiose sonatas that conclude and herald the late Romantic era.
