Papanosh – A Very Big Lunch
Exuberant French band depicts the world of author Jim Harrison.
Papanosh – A Very Big Lunch
Papanosh
is a young quintet that eagerly throws itself into all kinds of styles and forms: jazz, folk, impro and experimental. Their new album A Very Big Lunch is dedicated to Jim Harrison (1937-2016), the American writer known for the filmed novella Legends of the Fall. Harrison's compelling stories, landscapes and characters take shape in exuberant new soundtracks by Papanosh and drawings, paintings and projections by artist Lison de Ridder. The five members of Papanosh are part of the Rouen-based multimedia art collective Les Vibrants Défricheurs ('the spirited pioneers'). In the jazz world they each worked together with an enormous laundry list of well-known and lesser-known names, including Marc Ribot, Mike Reed, Théo Ceccaldi and Archie Shepp's Attica Blues Orchestra. In Papanosh, all five members compose for the band and any of them can assume the role of band leader.
