Behrang Alibabaei and Abeer Albatal

Persian singer Behrang Alibabaei and Syrian singer Abeer Albatal bring age-old poems and melodies from the Arabic, Persian and Assyrian cultures. In new arrangements, these are mixed with polyphonic vocal traditionals from Finland and Georgia. The acoustics of the Vondelkerk give the singing an extra spatial and powerful experience.

Behrang Alibabaei is a very gifted 'tahrir' singer. This Iranian form of singing (recognizable by the 'yodel'-like phrases) has deep roots in Persian culture. Syrian singer Abeer Al Batal has an incredibly flexible voice with a warm timbre. She sings not only in (classical) Arabic, but just as easily in other Middle Eastern languages.
