Old Roots New Routes: Meral Polat Trio - Ez Kî Me
The debut album of the Meral Polat Trio and the subsequent tour has received nothing but acclaim. Singer Meral Polat moves and kidnaps. Challenged by two virtuoso-playing companions, she embarks on a journey through Anatolian folk, Kurdish sounds and Afro-American blues. 'Kurdish Soul' she calls their soul-cutting music. With her own poetic texts and poems from her father's estate, Ez Kî Me tells universal stories from the diaspora, full of imagination and hope. The trio performs in De Duif.

Reviews
'… solid debut EZ KÎ ME…with modern Anatolian folk rock that makes you lick your fingers. Compared to Su Akyol, Polat brings a much more intense sound, both in her vocals and in the instrumentation. Sometimes it rocks loud and riotous, then again it sounds hushed and all the emphasis is on Polat's unbridled passion.' - Heaven Magazine - Feb 2023
"The skeletal grooves that support her powerful vocals are more reminiscent of jazz, rock and blues than Middle Eastern music." - Songlines Magazine - March 2023
Meral Polat - vocals/ percussion (NL/TR); Chris Doyle - guitar, keys (US); Frank Rosaly - drums (PR/US).
